Phase Separation and Domain Interaction in Pheophytin Containing Monolayers
نویسندگان
چکیده
Surface pressure and fluorescence intensity of pheophytin containing lipid-monolayers are measured simultaneously at the air-water interface. A phase separation into two distinct phases is reported. Phase 1 exists of pheophytin domains whereas phase 2 is a lipid domain containing pheophytin in molar content between 2 % and 15 %, depending on the state of the lipid. The transition of the pheophytin domains is described within a model explaining correctly the observed concentration dependence of the transition pressure n,. The analysis shows that the pheophytin domains are two-dimensional and of limited size (smaller than 1 000 molecules). The domains are stabilized by their environment by steric forces. The change of the interactions during the phase transition is calculated. It amounts to 0.6 X 10-l3 erg per molecule in the bulk of the domain and to 1.2 X 10-13 erg per molecule at the domain wall.

Fluorescence Spectroscopic and Thermodynamic Studies of Chlorophyll Containing Monolayers and Vesicles. Part I: Mixed Monolayers of Pheophytin A and Lecithin
Mixed monolayers of pheophytin a and a-L-dimyristoyl lecithin (DML) are investigated on the water surface. The studies gain their special value from the simultaneous measurement of surface pressure and fluorescence intensity as a function of the covered area per molecule. A phase separation in the liquid state of the monolayer is established. Phase 1 exists almost exclusively of pheophytin mole...
متن کاملSpectroscopic and Thermodynamic Studies of Chlorophyll Containing Monolayers and Vesicles Part II: Chlorophyll a and Pheophytin a Aggregation on DMPC Vesicles
Absorption and fluorescence experiments on pheophytin and chlorophyll containing lipid bilayer vesicles are reported. Pheophytin aggregates on the vesicles are established from an additional red shifted band (at 695 nm) in the absorption spectrum. These aggregates contain pheophytin in an arrangement with the molecular planes of the porphyrin rings being parallel and cover about 10% of the vesi...

The magnetoresistance of a one-dimensional electron gas in a metallic ferromagnetic nanowire containing two atomic-size domain walls has been investigated in the presence of spin-orbit interaction. The magnetoresistance is calculated in the ballistic regime, within the Landauer-Büttiker formalism. It has been demonstrated that the conductance of a magnetic nanowire with double domain walls...

Developing methods to probe the nature and structure of nanoscale environments continues to be a challenge in nanoscience. We report a cyclic voltammetry investigation of the internal, hydrogen-bond-driven phase separation of amide-containing thiols and alkanethiols. Amide-containing thiols with a terminal ferrocene carboxylate functional group were investigated in two binary monolayers, one ho...
متن کاملFormulation Development and Toxicity Assessment of Triacetin Mediated Nanoemulsions as Novel Delivery Systems for Rapamycin
The aim of this investigation was to design and develop nanoemulsions as novel delivery systems for rapamycin. Phase behavior of quaternary systems composed of Traicetin (as oil), various surfactants and co-surfactants and water at different surfactant/co-surfactant weight ratios were investigated by the construction of phase diagrams. Formulations were taken from the o/w NE region of the phase...
